    Soonman Kwon is Professor and Deputy Dean of the School of Public Health, Seoul National University (SNU), South Korea. He is the Director of the BK (Brain Korea) Center for Aging and Health Policy. Formerly, he was the Director of the Training Program for senior managers of the National Health Insurance Corporation (NHIC) and Health Insurance Review Agency (HIRA). After he received his Ph.D. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, he was assistant professor of public policy at the University of Southern California in 1993-1996. Prof. Kwon has held visiting positions at the Harvard School of Public Health (Takemi Fellow and Fulbright Scholar), London School of Economics and Political Science (Chevening Scholar), University of Toronto, University of Trier in Germany (DAAD scholar), Hosei University in Japan, and the Danish National Institute of Social Research.
    Prof. Kwon’s major areas of interest are in health economics and financing, comparative health policy and systems, political economy of health care reform, health systems in low-income countries, and aging and long-term care. He was the editor-in-chief of the Korean Journal of Public Health, and am currently on the editorial boards of leading international journals such as Social Science and Medicine, Health Economics Policy and Law, and Health Systems in Transition (HiT). Prof Kwon is a member of the Independent Assessment Committee (IAC) of the Advance Market Commitment (AMC) of the GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization). He is also a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) of the (WHO) Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research. Prof. Kwon has served on numerous health policy committees of the government of Korea, and has occasionally worked as a short-term consultant of WHO, World Bank, GTZ (German Technical Cooperation), ADB (Asia Development Bank), and EC (European Commission) on health financing and policy in Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Uganda, and Vietnam. He has also been a consultant of Korean government for the evaluation of its development aid programs in North Korea, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.
    He has published numerous articles in international journals including Social Science and Medicine, Journal of Health Politics Policy and Law, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Health Policy, Health Policy and Planning, Medical Care Research and Review, International Social Security Review, Social Policy and Administration, International Journal of Social Welfare, Social Indicators Research, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, Family Medicine, Journal of Aging and Social Policy, Global Social Policy, International Journal of Public Administration, and International Journal of the Economics of Business.
