The Second Boarding Meeting of CCHDS was held in Beijing

The Second Boarding Meeting of Peking University China Center for Health Development Studies (CCHDS) was held in Beijing on October 13 and 14. Academician Prof. Han Qide, Vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People's Congress, President of Peking University Health Science Center and Founding Director of CCHDS; Prof. Ke Yang, Executive vice-president of Peking University, Executive Vice-President of Peking University Health Science Center and Chairperson of the CCHDS Board;Dr. Lincoln Chen, Chairman of China Medical Board; Academician Wang Longde, President of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association; Jeffrey P. Koplan, Vice president for Global Health, Emory University;Anne Mills, Deputy Director ofLondon School of Hygiene & TropicalMedicine; Prof. William C. Hsiao from Harvard University,Co-chair of the CCHDS Board; Prof. Chen Yude from Peking University School of Public Health; Timothy Evans, Dean of BLAC School of Public Health, Bangladesh; Peter F. Geithner, Advisor of Harvard University Asia Center; Prof. Shanlian Hu, Director of Shanghai Center for Health Development Studies; and Prof. Meng Qingyue, Executive Director of Peking University China Center for Health Development Studies, and Dean of Peking University School of Public Health attended the meeting. Prof. Dong Zhe of Peking University Health Science Center; Dr. Zhang Lei, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation, Peking University Health Science Center and Ms Zhou Na Grants Manager of China Medical Board observed the meeting. The Board Meeting was chaired by Prof. Ke Yang and Prof. William Hsiao.
Prof. Meng Qingyue delivered a comprehensive report on the progress and future development plan of the Center. Since its establishment, the Center has received the dedicated support from Peking University Health Science Center and China Medical Board in terms of finance, work conditions and innovative institutional arrangements. Under the leadership of the Board, the Center has during its first year specified its development goals and research priorities; actively recruiting qualified faculty and staff members and formed a basic research team; actively applying for research grants and has been conducting many research projects funded by WHO, World Bank, Ministry of Health and the EU; successfully organized the Launch Meeting of World Health Report 2010 and Health Financing Symposium sponsored by MOH and WHO; organized along with the Chinese delegation to the First Global Symposium on Health System Research, making a crucial contribution to winning the bid for hosting the Second Global Symposium on Health System Research in Beijing; has published a dozen of research papers on international and Chinese journals; its researchers have participated in a number of investigation and evaluation mission of China’s Health System Reform; its own police brief Health Development Outlook has been well received and made significant influence on policy discussion and making.


The Board approved the Annual Report 2010-2011 and Work plan and Budget for 2011-2012, with a high recognition of the achievement and momentum of CCHDS. The Board members unanimously agreed that the rapid, all-round and high-quality development of the Center in its very first year established a sound foundation for a bright prospect. The Board members have also provided some insightful and visionary comments and suggestions. During the meeting, the Board also discussed about the preparation of the Second Symposium of Health System Research in 2012 in Beijing and held dialogue with CCHDS researchers about capacity building and research topics.
